An inspirational interior designer teamed up with Solus when she created a luxurious showcase for the Under the Stairs competition at Grand Designs Live.
Lynsey Hoskin’s unique composition was one of just eight entries to reach the final of the prestigious contest.
Her ‘Movie Night’ themed design, based on the iconic 1980’s films Pretty Woman and Dirty Dancing, is being showcased at Birmingham’s NEC until October 13.
The aim of the competition was to inspire visitors to make the most of unconventional spaces in their home – such as under the stairs – to work or enjoy hobbies.
Lynsey, who runs Asheville Interior Design in Derbyshire, has created a space which exudes escapism and luxury. The exhibition afforded her the opportunity to showcase one of her personal styles, featuring a calming palette with a soft pink velvet sofa and metallic wallpaper replicating tiles with accents of pewter and vintage gold.
The small love seat takes centre stage, providing a focal point for the display, while a retro hot pink flamingo light and a mix of art deco accessories and vintage candles complete the design.
Lynsey was keen to complement her sophisticated concept with an eye-catching yet classic tile and was confident that Solus, one of the UK’s leading tile suppliers, could source just what she was looking for.
During a meeting with the company’s Area Sales Manager Mark Blamires, Lynsey explained her desire to push the boundary on design diversity, prompting him to recommend the stylish complementary shades of the geometrically designed Rockface range.
Lynsey said: “The brief for the competition was to create a practical yet beautiful design that people can adapt to suit their own homes, making the most of whatever space they have, no matter how big or small. It was a challenging but thoroughly enjoyable project and I am absolutely delighted with the end result.
“I wanted to create a sense of sophistication and luxury from the top to the bottom, so the flooring was important. When I explained my vision to Mark he suggested the amazing Rockface tiles which fit my brief perfectly. They complement the rest of the design, adding to the chic sense of style. Mark showed me the Everyman Cinema project which feature these tiles and I absolutely loved them. The fabrication service available through Solus was also great. I would definitely like to incorporate this tile in future projects for clients, enabling the creation of a bespoke design and unique finish.”
Mark added: “It was a pleasure to help Lynsey create this wonderful showcase which is as unique as it is inspiring. When Lynsey explained the sort of ambiance she was trying to achieve, the Rockface range instantly came to mind. Its bespoke, classy character made it the perfect accompaniment to this luxurious and stylish concept.”
