Hotel Indigo York scoops award at York Design Awards 2016

Hotel, bar and restaurant experts, MatthewsMee were appointed to design the new Hotel Indigo located in Walmgate York. Solus were delighted to work alongside the team to supply tiles to the hotel en suite bathrooms and public areas in the lobby.
With a design inspired by local culture and the history of its surrounding neighbourhood it is no surprise that Hotel Indigo York scooped The Press People’s Award at the recent York Design Awards 2016.
Designed by MatthewsMee, the design brief focused on the York locale and the city’s chocolate industry heritage, and incorporates playful features to inspire guests during their stay.
Solus were thrilled to be brought on board to assist the designers in finding the perfect tile range to use in both the en-suite hotel bathrooms and the public food and beverage areas.
Creating an impressive feature in many of the 102 bedrooms and the feature fireplace in the reception, the Illustrate range provides a distinctive geometric pattern and an engaging focal point that perfectly enhances the design.
The designers used the Alia tile, which features a bold, checked graphic brought to life in a palette of chic grey shades. The 200x200mm tiles are made from high quality porcelain, yet are inspired by the rustic qualities of terracotta and thus feature slightly imperfect tones and textures, which only add to the character of the tiles.
