Outcome
Cost-effectiveness and sustainability were critical concerns for this UN-led food security and pest mitigation NGO. Scott Brownrigg designed this new building in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (the Chilterns). The lead architect, Rosa de Pablo, explained that because of the nature of the client and the location adherence to the strictest environmental standards was a priority.
ASM Michael Irvine, who has a long-standing relationship with the practice, was on hand to advise on the sustainability credentials of the materials supplied and how best to maximise their use to minimise waste.
Rosa de Pablo’s bioclimatic design is consistent with the values and priorities you might expect from a client working directly with the consequences of the climate crisis: passive energy management, natural materials, and integration with the landscape all play a role in making this RIBA Award shortlisted project outstanding.
