Tile Testing Services

Solus are able to provide an inclusive in-house tile testing service on request, which includes The Pendulum method and surface roughness testing. This means that Solus can provide clients with all of the data required to ensure that tiles conform to the exacting demands of health and safety practice in an efficient and speedy manner.

Solus are certified to carry out Pendulum Tests which measure slip resistance on a tile surface in both wet and dry conditions. The tests are carried out in laboratory conditions in accordance with BS7976-2:2002 and UK Slip Resistance Group Guidelines. This method is recognised in the UK by the Health and Safety Executive as the true test for the potential of slip. The Pendulum Test also has the added benefit of full portability in the evaluation of on-site slip potential.

Standard wear and cleaning will have an effect on slip resistance and Solus cannot guarantee the product will maintain the pendulum test values. It is recommended that Pendulum tests are carried out at least twice a year, especially in high traffic areas.

Solus also provides a number of surface roughness testing procedures to make sure that products conform to the demands of every individual project.

Tile cutting and fabrication Services

Solus are able to offer a wide range of tile cutting and finishing services. In addition to water jet cutting services, fabrication of countertops, receptions desks, vanity tops and table tops and the ability to bullnose and cut step treads into almost any tile, investment in the pioneering Pragma SECO 701 machine, designed to cut tiles into a range of bespoke sizes, adds design options to any project. It dramatically increases accuracy and precision whilst offering architects, designers and contractors uniquely cut tiles at a cost-effective price.

The multi-blade machine can cut tiles of up to 700mm in width and 1,200mm in length. The machine can hold up to 25 blades at any one time and pumps cooling water onto the blades as they cut; ensuring breakages and chipping are prevented. All types of tiles can be cut, including porcelain, ceramic and composite stone.

Solus was the first UK tile company to procure a Pragma SECO 701, and its ability to accurately cut an extensive range of sizes means that architects and designers can be provided with a greater range of tile choices. It also makes it far more commercially viable to use non-standard sizes or sizes that may have previously been expensive to cut.

In 2015 Solus invested in their second more advanced cutting machine. The new model improves the scope and scale of Solus’ tile cutting service, meaning the company can provide a larger variety of bespoke shapes and sizes, can cut larger tiles and process material at a higher volume. A brand new waste water recycling system also reduces the environmental impact of the device.
