Description
Hong Kong tech-accelerator opens doors on new facility in heart of King's Cross. Terrazzo throughout complements the historic fabric of the building with the exposed brick, timber and steel. Design features from respected artists Charlotte Kidger, Dirk van der Kooij, and Fernando Laposse are aptly framed by the warm hues of this unique terrazzo. The retrofitted space stimulates the mind and invites invention.

Outcome
Cottam House is an 19th century light-industrial facility to the east of King’s Cross station on the corner of the Regent Quarter. Endurance land retained Untold Interiors and Barr Gazetas to retrofit this striking and historic space.
The current occupant is The Mills Fabrica, a tech-accelerator, incubator and investor focussing on sustainability solutions within the agriculture and textile industries.
The design brief retained certain original features while transforming the space into somewhere appropriate for modern businesses. The old arched vehicular entrance was sealed and turned into a lobby: to the left is a showcasing space for the enterprises that operate within the building, to the right is a cafe. Terrazzo supplied by Solus covers the floor and rises up the walls to waist height.
On the first floor is a reception with some captivating design features including sculptural tables by Charlotte Kidger and wall hangings by Fernando Laposse. The reception desk is clad in porcelain, and the terrazzo walls and floor continue here.
The installation of the terrazzo by Trainor Stone is world class: the colour scheme complements the exposed brick, timber, and steel. A generously light place to work, network, and experiment.
