Description
Taking design cues from the building's heritage as an early electric cinema and later a dance hall, Gourmet Burger Kitchen Canterbury features Art Deco inspired motifs and details woven into the richly decorated space.
Tiles Used
Tiles from the Natural range were selected and fabricated into an unusual bespoke pattern.
Outcome
Solus were delighted to once again work alongside the team at moreno:masey architecture on another Gourmet Burger Kitchen Project.
This time around, Solus supplied floor tiles to the Canterbury location. Tiles were selected from the Natural range, which is inspired by the structure and complexity of natural stone. Two colours were chosen for the project including a milky beige and a deep rich black. Originally supplied in a standard 600x600mm format, the designers had the tiles cut and then reformatted to create the intricate and unusual floor pattern.
The black and white are perfect, classic colour choices and work very well together to create an Art Deco aesthetic. A creative and dynamic way of using the material, Solus can also assist clients with tile cutting projects and can either provide inclusive in-house services for large scale standard cuts, or work with their partners in the industry to achieve more intricate, bespoke designs as seen here.
Interestingly the tiles are used amongst areas of reclaimed and reused wood, echoing the look and feel of an old dancehall, which references the previous use of the building.
