Description
Unlike most local Lesiure Centres, North Devon Leisure Centre is a a fantastic example of exemplary design and a forward thinking aesthetic. Bold, bright and colourful- some of Solus' best pool ranges were used.
Tiles Used
Anti slip tiles from the Program range were supplied to the pool and spa surround, large format tiles from the Travertine 1 range were supplied to spa walls and cost effective tiles from the Caprio and Modular range were fitted around the changing rooms.
Outcome
April 2012 saw the reopening of the North Devon Leisure Centre in Barnstaple, following a £1.5m redesign, and Solus were specified to supply more than twenty individual types of tile to the project.
Built originally in 1975 the pool and changing areas were in desperate need of updating and the project designers Jamieson Smith Associates brought the facility into the 21st century with an inspired scheme using complimentary blends of subtle neutral tones lifted with contemporary vibrant citrus colours.
The brief of the project was to create a bright, open and welcoming space. Porcelain tiles from the Anti-slip and Program ranges were supplied for the pool surround and spa area floors,
specified for their durability, ease of maintenance and exceptional anti slip properties for wet barefoot areas.
Ceramic and glass mosaics were specified from the Collective, Glass Source and Ceramics Balance ranges, while rich cream and brown large format porcelain tiles from the Travertine 1 collection were used to clad the walls in the spa areas to create a sophisticated environment more typical of luxury hotel spas than of public leisure centre facilities.
