Description
A number complementary coloured tiles were chosen by the architect and artfully laid in a pixel style of floor pattern. The colours were used to create a delicate pathway throughout the college.
Tiles Used
Various shades were chosen from the modern and urban Ecological range.
Outcome
The Watford Campus at West Herts College underwent an extensive and exciting makeover in 2009 with tiles supplied by Solus.
The building, which officially opened in September 2011, is the largest and newest at the college. Solus supplied tiles from the popular and contemporary Ecological range, which comprises eight porcelain floor tiles available in three finishes.
For West Herts College, an assortment of colours was used: three shades of grey and three shades of beige.
Tiles were provided in a matt finish in a 600x600mm format, and covered an area of 4,400m2!
The architect involved in the project was Birmingham-based Weedon Partnership, whilst designer Derek Matthews from interior design practice Monteith Scott specified the chosen tile range to create a contemporary urban environment.
The tiles’ diverse tonal range allowed for some subtle changes in patterns, in addition to areas of higher contrast. The main entrance features random patterns with repetitive elements, which serve to create a rhythm through the building.
