Moving Earth: Sustainability and Ceramics

Since joining Solus, our Sustainability Manager has carried out in depth research and analysis into the industry and its products. This RIBA-approved CPD is the result of that research, and addresses the environmental impact of the industry and the role that ceramics can play in creating sustainable environments.

Ken Graham, sustainability manager

"The in-practice interaction with CPD attendees has been beneficial for all involved. Over 250 practices have been visited already; revealing differences in flooring and fixtures in use, and gaps in sustainability knowledge and application."

You will learn how:

The building materials, design, and construction sector bears great responsibility for reducing embodied carbon and operational carbon footprints.

The terms and definitions used in the industry are currently confusing; they need to be better understood, corrected, and communicated.

Ceramic tiles and best practice installation processes can help reduce the carbon footprint of buildings, from construction, maintenance, and repurposed material perspectives.

Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) are becoming increasingly important; understanding what they contain, and how they differ, is key when specifying products.

Proposed amendments to building legalisation to consider the whole-life carbon emissions of buildings will have a major impact on the future of design.
