Gio Ponti expo to be unveiled at Design Crawl Manchester

7th October 2021

Solus will be unveiling its hugely successful exhibition celebrating the life and work of iconic Italian architect Gio Ponti as part of Design Crawl Manchester.

The captivating expo was launched at the company’s award-winning Clerkenwell Showroom during London Design Festival and will now be shared with the thriving A&D community based in the north of England.

The world-famous ‘Blu Ponti’ range will take centre stage during the event, which will be held at the Boss Design Showroom from October 19-21, when visitors will have the opportunity to view the 33 handcrafted Majolica tiles and discover more about the intriguing man who created them.

Hailed as one of the prime masters of Italian architecture, Ponti was commissioned to craft the blue and white ceramics, featuring mesmerising mathematical and geometric patterns, especially for the Hotel Parco dei Principi in 1960.

Beautifully reflecting the stunning seascape of Sorrento, the decorative glazed tiles were used to transform 100 rooms in the hotel, along with the lobby, reception area, bar, and restaurant, where they still take pride of place to the present day.

An artist in the purest sense of the word, Ponti’s functional yet unique style and minimal approach, coupled with his rich use of detail and expressive shapes, continues to inspire contemporary creatives, and he is lauded as one of the most influential designers of the 20th Century.

Alongside the exhibition, Solus is offering visitors the chance of winning a fantastic mini break for two at the hotel that inspired Blu Ponti’s creation. Simply slip into your most eye-catching shoes, snap a selfie while standing on the tiles, share the image on Instagram and tag Solus in using #SolusBluPonti.

Claire Elvin, Area Sales Manager for North-West England, and North Wales, said: “I am absolutely delighted to be able to showcase the Blu Ponti range during the return of Design Crawl Manchester, an event which was sorely missed from our calendars last year. Ponti’s work continues to inspire architects and designers globally and I feel extremely honoured to be able to bring this stunning range to the city and to offer guests a fascinating insight into his life.”

A selection of stylish new products launched by Boss Design, Ultrafabrics, Forbo, and Autex will also be displayed during the event. Pop into the showroom, located at 25, The Lightwell, 27 Booth Street, Manchester, M2 4AF between 9am-5.30pm on October 19 and 21 and 9am-8pm on October 20.
