Meet the team: Luke Bajic, Specialist Product Consultant

How did you come to work at Solus? 

I first met Michael, Head of London Sales, at the Material Matters event at the Oxo Tower last September. I was there supporting colleagues in the industry who were curating the event, and we got chatting at the Solus stand. Coming from a sustainability background, I was really fascinated by some of the innovative products on display, especially Spolia. It captured my interest straight away. 

With my experience in environmental and sustainability consulting within the construction industry, I’ve always been driven by the question of how we can do things differently and more sustainably. From that point on, I kept a close eye on Solus, and when the opportunity to join as a Specialist Product Consultant came up a year later, it felt like a great next step. 

What do you like to do outside of work? 

I’m a big fan of travel and culture, I love city breaks and exploring new places, sometimes even solo. Photography is another passion of mine, and being a keen traveller, the two go hand in hand. As a football fan (Leicester born and bred), I enjoy combining all three, heading to games abroad and capturing different football cultures. 

Outside of that, I like to stay active, whether that’s working out at the gym or running regularly. I’m also a big foodie, which naturally ties into my love of travel (though I’ll admit I’m less enthusiastic when it comes to cooking for myself...). 

What are you currently reading/watching/listening to? 

I’m currently reading Kala by Colin Walsh as part of a book club with a couple of lads, although I do struggle to keep up! I’ve been really enjoying Slow Horses on TV, and when it comes to listening, I’m a big fan of house music. That said, not for the morning commute, so I’ll usually switch to a mix of football and business podcasts. I find the strategy side of both worlds really fascinating. 

What inspires and motivates you? 

I’m motivated by experiences and the chance to learn something new. Anything that captures my interest and allows me to grow, whether personally or professionally, gives me a real sense of purpose. 

What’s the best advice you’ve been given? 

To say yes and throw yourself into new experiences. You really do get out what you put in, and I’ve found that mindset opens up opportunities you might not otherwise expect. 

What are you most excited about at Solus? 

For me, it’s the opportunity to work with an innovator and a market leader in sustainability. I’m really excited about helping to bring specialist products into projects and playing a role in improving the wider market. Coming from a creative background, I also love the idea of working alongside like-minded people in a collaborative and innovative environment, one that constantly challenges me and gets me thinking.
