Solus partners with Canal & River Trust to help make life better by water

Solus is proud to announce a new partnership with Canal & River Trust, supporting the charity’s work in caring for 2,000 miles of canals and river navigations across England and Wales.

Our contribution to the Trust’s Environment Fund will provide direct financial support and create opportunities for the Solus team to take part in hands-on volunteering throughout 2025 and 2026.

Canal & River Trust plays a vital role in preserving waterways as spaces for people, nature, and heritage. From city centre towpaths to rural canals, these blue corridors are lifelines for biodiversity, wellbeing, and culture. They provide habitats for wildlife, peaceful routes for walking and cycling, and reminders of the industrial ingenuity that shaped Britain.

For Solus, the decision to partner with the Trust aligns with the pillars that inform our activities as a company: People, Product, and Planet. It connects directly to our heritage in the Midlands, where Birmingham’s canal system remains one of the city’s most distinctive features. The waterways around our home are both a historic legacy and a living environment that link us to our other homes in Manchester and London. Supporting the Trust allows us to give back to the communities and places where we work by contributing to the protection of our shared environment.

Over the next year, we will be organising a series of volunteering days at canal and riverside sites across the country. These events will give colleagues the chance to get involved in practical activities, cleaning, clearing, planting, and building, to help keep the waterways healthy and thriving. The first session took place in early October, with the team cleaning canals in Digbeth and clearing overgrown paths.

The Trust will keep us informed on how the Environment Fund is performing, sharing updates on the difference our time and financial support are making. This partnership gives Solus the opportunity to contribute on multiple levels: investing in environmental stewardship, strengthening ties to our local communities, and offering our team meaningful ways to connect outside of the office.

At Solus, we believe that sustainability is not just about products, but about people and place. By working with the Canal & River Trust, we are aligning our business with a charity that makes life better by water. Together, we hope to help protect and enhance these vital waterways for generations to come.

"I am delighted to be working in partnership with Canal & River Trust. The charity focuses on both environmental and social programmes, so this is the perfect combination to align with our company vision and values." Holly Oag, Head of People.
