We're delighted to welcome Sophia Wise as Head of Regional Sales

We are delighted to welcome Sophia Wise to the team.  Sophia joins us as our new Head of Regional Sales having already had a successful career in the specification sector. Conleth Buckley, the editor of Quarter magazine chatted to Sophia to find out more.

How did you come to work at Solus?

Sophia

I became aware of the vacancy and immediately recognised the significant synergies between my existing role and the opportunity at Solus. What truly appealed to me was the chance to contribute to a business that places such a strong emphasis on its people. From my initial discussions with the directors, it was evident that Solus was a company whose ethos resonated deeply with me. As a business, Solus is incredibly well regarded within the architectural and design (A&D) community, which speaks volumes. The company's commitment to 'People, Product, Planet' isn't merely a platitude; it's a fundamental principle that guides their operations, and that's something I find incredibly important.

Conleth

What are you most proud of achieving in your career so far?

Sophia

Throughout my career, I've had the privilege of experiencing several noteworthy achievements, including securing a dream client and delivering a particularly impactful project. However, looking back, I would now say that my greatest source of pride lies in building and mentoring a successful team. Fostering a collaborative and supportive environment, where everyone feels empowered to excel, has been a truly fulfilling aspect of my career to date.

Conleth

What do you like to do outside of work?

Sophia

I'm fortunate enough to live in the beautiful rural county of Northumberland, which provides ample opportunities for getting outdoors. My family and I frequently enjoy exploring the stunning coastline, walking our dog, Cara, along the beaches, or venturing along Hadrian's Wall. I'm also a keen foodie and enjoy cooking for others. A typical Sunday will involve preparing a hearty roast dinner.  To balance out the Yorkshire Pudding intake I like to do regular exercise so I run and go to the gym on a regular basis.  Finally I love to travel, whether it’s a mini break with friends or a longer adventure with the family.

Conleth

What are you currently reading/watching/listening to?

Sophia

I've recently finished watching 'Adolescence', which I found tough to watch, particularly as a parent of teenagers. As a family we like to watch Taskmaster for its ridiculous tasks! Music is always on in our house with everyone battling to have their playlist on so one minute it can be The Killers, then Dua Lipa, a bit of country or Guns and Roses! When I’m in my car driving alone, I like to listen to podcasts. 'The News Agents' was brilliant during the American election, and I'm currently enjoying 'Off Menu' with Ed Gamble and James Acaster, which is very entertaining.

Conleth

What inspires and motivates you?

Sophia

I find that the passion and energy displayed by others can be incredibly infectious and, therefore, highly motivating. Inspiration can manifest in various forms, but I'm particularly excited by the opportunity to travel and experience stunning architecture, whether it's within the UK or further afield.

Conleth

What’s the best advice you’ve been given?

Sophia

Can I have two?

The most valuable advice I've received is to focus on the aspects of your life that you can control and let go of what is beyond your control.

I find myself coming back to this advice time and time again when presented with particular challenges.  It’s a great way to put a stressful situation into perspective.

The other piece of advice was given to me recently and I like it - "Don’t attempt to boil the ocean".

Conleth

What are you most excited about at Solus?

Sophia

I'm particularly excited about the prospect of collaborating with my new team and forging some deeper relationships with our architects and designers. The opportunity to explore and introduce innovative products, especially sustainable options, to the industry is incredibly thrilling. Solus have a brilliant programme of events planned for the year which I am looking forward to being involved with.  They range from PTV workshops, EPD sessions to our bigger events like Empowerment Women in Construction.
