Artisanal ceramics take centre stage for CDW Unlocked

22nd June 2021

In a joyous celebration of colour, Solus will unveil the artisanal creations of up-and-coming designer Elisa Passino as it welcomes guests into the showroom for Clerkenwell Design Week Unlocked.

Inspired by the architecture of her native Italy and her current base in Portugal, Elisa has designed an intriguing selection of handmade natural clay products which beautifully combine traditional aesthetics with contemporary culture.

In tribute to the timeless work of Corbusier, Bofill and Barragan, Geometrie Componibili embraces light and chroma, culminating in a unique collection that features varying hues, nuances, and shading.

Characterised by geometric shapes and featuring a rainbow of tones, the individual designs that adorn the ceramic tiles encourage the imagination to wander, leading to the creation of highly original compositions.

Explaining the motivation behind her work, Elisa, who launched the Elisa Passino Studio in 2019, said: “Since arriving in Portugal, I have been fascinated by the beautiful facades of the buildings which are decorated in colourful azulejos. Each design is special and completely unique, yet they combine in perfect harmony.

“The idea behind Geometrie Componibili was to transpose the classic design of the tiles into a product that is contemporary yet eclectic, lending another voice to the aesthetics that we are used to thinking about.

“I find inspiration in every small detail that surrounds me and, for this range in particular, I was influenced by the timeless work of the ‘architects of colour’ and from their vision, angles and representations.”

Augmenting the vibrant artisanal theme, Solus’ new Archway products will be showcased alongside Elisa’s captivating collection. Mirroring Geometrie Componibili, the range features an extensive selection of vivid hand-crafted tiles, their exclusive aesthetics reflecting the rich heritage of ceramics.

Offered in shades spanning the chromatic wheel, the tiles are enhanced by wave, arch and contour designs that shape the rustic terracotta tiles. Alongside the range, a selection of unique 3D blocks will also be displayed.

Solus’ Commercial and Marketing Director Steve Baker said: “We are delighted to be showcasing two inspirational hand-crafted ranges as part of Clerkenwell Design Week Unlocked. The unique nature of the tiles is truly mesmerising while their artisanal appearance is a reminder of the centuries of history that sit behind their production.”

Architects, interior designers, and specifiers are invited to view Geometrie Componibili and Archway – as well as a plethora of other stylish products – at Solus’ Clerkenwell Showroom, 80 Clerkenwell Road, from 9am to 7pm between July 6-8.

The number of guests permitted to enter the venue will be limited to reflect the Government’s current rules regarding social distancing. Please reserve your place in advance by emailing [email protected].
